  Al-Istighfaar (Seeking forgiveness) - Abu Ghadhanfar
Istighfaar is derived from the root gha-fa-ra (“to forgive”), and thus it means is “to seek forgiveness”. It is also related to the word mighfar. Ibn ul-Qayyim states in Madaarij us-Saalikeen that the literal meaning of a mighfar is “what saves the head from discomfort or harm”.
